Misguided Missile Decision by President Today, President Barak Obama announced his decision to scrap a missile defense shield in Poland and the Czech Republic. Now is not the time to walk away from this important strategic initiative. Iran is a serious threat. In fact, just a few hours ago the Associated Press reported that according to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Iran now has enough information to build a bomb and will likely “overcome problems” in constructing a method of delivering such a weapon. Now, more than ever, our allies in Europe and around the world face real threats from rogue nations seeking nuclear capabilities. Poland and the Czech Republic, the proposed sites for the shield, have been stalwart allies, particularly in Afghanistan where the President is formulating a new strategy. With Iran aggressively pursuing nukes to use against Israel and Europe, and North Korea test-firing missiles near South Korea and Japan, now is not the time to capitulate. The missile defense shield would have provided a deterrent to those seeking to develop long range missiles that would threaten our country and our allies. We can only achieve lasting peace through strength.
