August District Work Period Update As the August District Work Period draws to close, I wanted to send a note of thanks to all of you who contacted my D.C. and Irving offices regarding the proposed health care reform bills. In all, we received nearly 3,000 emails, phone calls, faxes, and letters from residents who live all across the 24th District. Many of you offered great ideas about what health care reform means to you. To those who were able to make it to the town halls in Duncanville and Farmers Branch, I hope you found them informative and worthwhile. I thoroughly enjoyed being able to listen to your thoughts about reform and explain my policy priorities as the debate moves forward. Many of you were unable to make it to the town halls, but came by the District Office either for one of the eight small group forums or one of the nearly 100 one-on-one meetings I held during the last five weeks. In addition, I held meetings with health care professionals in Grapevine and Irving to discuss the impact of health care reform on their practices and their patients. More than anything, I came away inspired by the seriousness and passion with which everyone is taking the issue of health care reform. Many of you conveyed to me that you had never contacted a congressman or senator until this debate started. Now, many of you have become engaged and made it a priority to remain informed on the policy debates in Congress. As I return refreshed to Washington, D.C. later today, I will bring your concerns and ideas to bear on the debate stirring on Capitol Hill. In the months ahead, I am sure the bills being considered will change from day to day and week to week; however, in the meantime, I hope you will continue to contact my offices to share your thoughts on the bills as they continue to develop.
